The Kingdom of Swaziland, one of the few remaining African monarchies, is divided into four distinct regions, Hhohho, Manzini, Lubombo and Shiselweni, each with its own separate character. The many nature reserves throughout Swaziland protect a variety of birds and animals, including the Big Five, and the geography of the country includes rain forest in the north west to savannah scrub in the east.
The country is famous for its wonderful handicrafts and colourful culture and traditions, including the Incwala ceremony held in late December or early January and the Umhlanga (reed) dance held in August or September.
Although Swaziland is a small country, there are plenty of activities for the visitor to enjoy including some terrific white water rafting on the Usutu River in the rainy season, horse riding, mountain biking and hiking along ancient walking tracks.
