TRAVEL & MEDICAL INSURANCE: DO YOU HAVE THE COVER YOU NEED?
International travellers must have appropriate insurance and standard credit-card type cover simply isn't enough. The following tips are useful when considering travel insurance:-
- Ensure that medical cover and emergency medical evacuation insurance are included in the travel policy.
- Insure against the unexpected. Trip cancellation insurance will pay for any non-refundable holiday costs.
- Don't just compare the price of travel insurance, but compare the benefits of cover as well as what the policy excludes and other product features.
- Check the reimbursement terms of the policy. Does the policy require you to pay up front for medical bills etc. and then reimburse you, or does it kick in immediately?
- Always make sure you understand the maximum reimbursement amount of each individual benefit.
- Always keep records and receipts of any expensive items you plan to take with you on your trip (e.g. camera, jewellery etc.)
- Always report any lost or stolen goods immediately to the local police, hotel management and/or travel company. If a bag is lost or stolen at the airport, report it immediately and obtain a receipt from the airline or baggage handler.
